Der Deutsche Bibliotheksverband e.V. verleiht mit Unterstützung der ZEIT-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius am 24. Oktober 2010 - dem “Tag der Bibliotheken” - zum elften Mal den Preis „Bibliothek des Jahres” am Ort des Preisträgers. Die Auszeichnung “Bibliothek des Jahres” ist der einzige nationale Bibliothekspreis in Deutschland.
Mit dieser Auszeichnung soll ein Beitrag zum neuen Image der Bibliotheken in Deutschland geleistet werden.
Die Auszeichnung würdigt Bibliotheken aller Sparten und Größen.
Ausgezeichnet wird vorbildliche Bibliotheksarbeit.
Die Auszeichnung soll Motivation der Bibliotheken im Wettbewerb um Qualität und Innovation sein.
Vorschlagsberechtigt sind die Sektionen, Landesverbände und Kommissionen des dbv sowie die Jury-Mitglieder.
Das BibCamp ist eine Art BarCamp rund um Bibliotheken. Es soll eine Kommunikationsplattform für einen Erfahrungsaustausch im Bereich Bibliotheken und wissenschaftliche Kommunikation geschaffen werden. Eingeladen sind alle BibliothekarInnen, Studierenden, DozentInnen aus dem Bibliotheksbereich und natürlich auch die BibliotheknutzerInnen. Es werden aber auch bewußt “Hacker” aus verwandten Bereichen wie Archiv, Museum, E-Learning, Informationswissenschaft, Wissensmanagement und IT-Entwicklung angesprochen

“The Pinole Library is launching a valentine campaign to demonstrate support for our library. We are asking members of the community to write a short note about their love for the library, and we will deliver these ‘library love letters’ to Pinole City Council in time for Valentine’s Day 2010. So far, we have collected hundreds of valentines.”
For the past ten years, Luis Soriano, a teacher in the small town of La Gloria, Colombia, has been following the same ritual. Every week-end, he gathers his donkey in front of his house, straps on the “Biblioburro” pouches to its back, and loads them with a selection of books from the eclectic collection he has acquired over the years. Off on his mobile library, he travels into the hills and through the fields to the villages beyond where children await his visits impatiently. He firmly believes that bringing books to people who don’t have access to them can improve the country and open up possibilities for the future generation of Colombia.
